How I think about building lasting, mutually beneficial partner relationships
The most productive partnerships aren't the ones with the best economics on paper. They're the ones where both sides genuinely want the other to win. When your partner contact picks up the phone because they want to talk to you, not because the QBR is scheduled, everything moves faster. Deals unstick. Integrations get prioritized. Roadmap requests actually happen. That velocity is the difference between a partnership that exists and one that performs.
This requires treating partners like friends, not vendors. Friends share context that partners don't. They tell you when a deal is real and when you're being used as leverage. They advocate for you in rooms you're not in. You can't contractually obligate any of that. You earn it by showing up consistently and caring about their success as much as your own. The partnerships that compound over years are built on that foundation.
